Born 10 November 1834 near Henry Station, TN, the son of John Calvin Carter. Moved to Texas with family in 1843, but returned to Henry Co. by 1860. Father and brother served with Texas CSA regiments. After Paducah, detailed to command sick & disabled, so not present at Fort Pillow. Captured and ended war in prison. After war, served as Mayor of Clarksville, TX. Died 16 June 1891.

Discharged at Gainsville, AL in 1865. Received a pension.

Achilles V. Clark

Paroled as Capt. 11 May 1865, Gainesville AL.
"Killes" Clark was born 1842. A college student and slaveholder, he was promoted to 1st Sergeant prior to the battle at Fort Pillow, and later was elected 1st Lieutenant. He was promoted to Captain in February 1865 and replaced Macon Freeman in command of "K" Co. He also served as Captain of "D" Co. of the consolidated 19/20th. After the war he returned to Henry County. A letter from him to his sisters Judith (Porter) and Henrietta (Ray) is in the Confederate Collection of the Tennessee State Library and Archives and is reprinted in Cimprich and Mainfort (1982).

The records compiled by Watkins (1989) include a "Coley Nealy" of Co. K, 15th TN Cavalry, who died at Lauderdale Springs, June 24, 1864. This is probably the same individual but with the name misunderstood.
