Born ca. 1839 (1844?) in Rutherford Co., TN, son of Drury and Letitia Abbott Dance. Enlisted 1861 in the 12th Tennessee Infantry, accompanied by a body servant. Participated in the battles of Belmont and Shiloh. Accompanied by a body servant. During the reorganization following Shiloh, was discharged as underage. Joined John Hunt Morgan's cavalry and went on the Ohio Raid. Captured at Buffington Island, Ohio, and sent to prison. After 3 months, bribed guard to escape, returned to West Tennessee and helped raise cavalry company, so that "in 3 weeks after I left prison was back in the service with Forest."

"Arthur T. Dew was born in Wilson County, Tenn., March 23, 1844; but his parents removed to Weakley County, near Dresden, while he was a child, and there he grew to manhood. He entered the Conf. army in 1863 as a member or Co. I, 20th Tenn. Cav., Bell's Brigade, under Forrest, and served to the close of the war, surrendering at Gainsville, Ala. He was a splendid soldier. The day before the battle of Harrisburg he was left behind with a sick horse, but he procured another mount and joined the command that night and participated in the battle next day, in which he was slightly wounded. After the war he married and settled near Sharon, Tenn., where he died on June 4, 1911. He was a brother of Col. R. J. Dew, of Trenton, Tenn."

Born 24 February, 1839 in Henry Co., TN, son of Jediah and Mary Anderson Dinwiddie. Enlisted, 1861, in the 5th TN Infantry, and saw action at Belmont, Island #10, and New Madrid. Leg broken at Shiloh. After hospital, commissioned to raise a company (became B Co., 20th Cavalry), and with them at Paducah, Ft. Pillow, Brownsville, Somersville, Briton's Lane, Big Hatchie, Artesia, Corinth, and Okolona. In May 1864 he returned to the 5th Infantry in Georgia, where he was wounded at Peach Tree Creek. Discharged from hospital in Macon, GA in November, 1864.
The Index to Tennessee Confederate Pension Applications shows that Tennessee pension application #13891 was filed by M.B. Dinwiddie of Henry County for service with the 5th Infantry.
