"SOOZEE" After the loss of our poodle Joey, in a property fire last March, my
husband and I thought we would never be able to love another dog. Then a friend gave us an eighth month old Shar-Pei named Soozee. Good grief, I thought to myself, how can a walrus mug like that ever replace my Joey? But it was as if she knew we were mourning the loss of another dog and her love and patience helped to heal our hearts. Now, I cannot imagine a life without this snoring beauty by my side. Soozee is owned and love by Juanita and Don Klein.

"SHEBA" We already had a "full house" when some friends told us they could no longer keep Sheba. We took her in as a favor to them...not realizing how she would enrich our lives. She is six years old, a red/fawn horse coat, and a lover of soft comforters, biscuits, and human chins and cheeks on which to plant slurpy kisses. Her number one dislike is having her nails clipped, second only to hearing the mailman deliver mail. She is protective, loyal, and a loving member of the Kohler family.

"PEARL" (no photo) I saw your information on the internet, and decided to share my story if anyone is interested. Two weeks ago today, my father and I went to the Cincinnati S. P. C. A. to look for some sort of replacement for my girl, Sugar. The supervisor showed us many great prospects still there were no 'Sugars' to be found and with great grief in my heart, I went home discouraged.
After returning home, I started to dream about the very first 'dog' we were shown. It just happened to be a very scared, standoffish Shar Pei named 'Pearl.' The following Friday, I called and they said they still had her and that she would put her off by herself. I still hadn't completely made up my mind and decided to call on Saturday as to one way or another. Upon my arrival to work (at a local bank), I discovered a strand of costume pearls at my teller station that a customer had dropped/left in the bank. No one at work knew of my dreams or potential plans for 'Pearl '.
My father arrived with 3 year old 'pearl' on Saturday, August 2, 1997 approximately 5 minutes after I got home from work. (My father lives 2 hours north of me.) She immediately growled and wouldn't get out of his car. To make a long story shorter she is the most loving, loyal, and adorable girl. She is fawn in color and brush in coat. She wants nothing more than to be with me. I live on a large lake and we're in the country verses the city. She absolutely adores my boyfriend, Ralph and his very spastic Golden Retriever, Barlow. She does many funny things, and has become protective and loyal in such a short time I don't need to 'leash' her (unless going for a walk) and she is 'housebroken'.
I would've never dreamed of having a Shar pei until I met Pearl. She's a wonderful companion and I truly appreciate your information supplied on the internet. Pearl is owned and loved by Nancy Kelley.

PO-TA'S THOUGHTFUL PANTHER Po-Ta's Thoughtful Panther is a ten year old black male horsecoat bred by his owner, Lisa Porter. Panther has accompanied Lisa to work at the Thrifty Bookworm in Lexington, Ky since he was four months old. Many customers, children and adults alike, refer to the store as Panther's Book Store. Panther is the senior dog in a six Shar-pei family and takes his responsibilities very seriously. As a companion, he is without equal.

"MAXWELL COLE" Maxwell Cole was born in Lubbock, TX in 1991. Our faithful friend is a world traveler, accompanying us to Okinawa, Japan and back to where we now live in San Antonio. Maxwell is the definition of a beautiful "pet quality" Shar-Pei. Sure he has pricked ears, a flowered tongue and toenails from hell, but look beyond these surface "faults," for he is a loving, loyal friend. An indoor dog, his pastimes include looking out the window (for hours on end, whining and snorting at the birds and squirrels), sleeping, and scratching his back in ecstasy on the living room rug. He is perceptive and discriminating regarding who he will allow in his house, yet always gentle; would rather burst than go to the bathroom on concrete; is a basket case when it comes to nail clipping; likes his belly rubbed; prefers his water refrigerated; loves to lick your empty beer bottle and coffee cup; likes bagels, tortilla chips, pretzels and pizza crust; is the best dog we could ever hope to have. Owned and loved by Bob and Joy Worthington.

"TAI" We adopted a Shar-Pei from the Humane Society about four years ago, and he has been without a doubt the best dog we ever had. Tai is intelligent and funny and vey much our baby. He is very much the guard dog. No one gets into the house until they pass the Tai sniff test. But once your in, if he really likes you, he will honor you by sitting at your feet, with his back to you and "guard" you.

We think Tai is somewhere between six and eight, and he seems to get smarter every day. I want to share a story with you about Tai that is a little gross, but very funny. Tai has a "delicate" stomach, which is to say that he throws up a lot. My husband works from home, so he is usually right there to clean it up, by getting a thick towel and standing on it to absorb the liquid. Well one day Tim, was on the phone and Tai got sick in the hallway. Tim was on a business call, so all he could do was shake his finger at Tai. I swear to God this is true, Tai went and pulled a towel from a pile of laundry and stood on it, essentially cleaning up after himself. How's that for being a clean dog! Owned and loved by the Strongs.

WOODY This Shar-Pei was a stray dog and was one step away from the dog pound. Unable to locate his previous owners, we adopted him as one of our own. Since we rescued him in an area of Atlanta called Dunwoody, we felt the name "Woody" would be appropriate. Woody has become an extremely devoted and protective member of our family. He guards us at all times by sitting on our feet and staying between us and the closest exterior door. He's more effective than any electronic security system could ever be! We wouldn't trade him for anything.

Age:5-7 years/Weight:60 lbs/Coat: Brush/Credentials: He didn't have any when we found him, but it's odvious that he's a perfect example of what a Shar-Pei should be.

Owned and loved by Kim and Marissa Medlin.
